    Major Flood Warning For The Haughton River Catchment

    MAJOR FLOODING OCCURRING AT GIRU
     Significant rainfall has been observed across the Haughton River catchment over the last few days. Further rainfall is forecast during the weekend.
     Upstream along the Haughton River at Mt Piccaninny, the river level peaked just below the major flood level during Friday evening and is now above the moderate flood level and falling. The river level at Powerline is above the moderate flood level and steady.
     The Haughton River at Giru is likely to reach around 3.00 metres late Saturday morning. Giru is likely to remain above the major flood level during the remainder of Saturday and into Sunday, however it is unlikely to reach the levels seen earlier this month.
     The situation is being monitored and the warning will be updated as required.
     A Severe Weather Warning is current for parts of the North Tropical Coast and Tablelands and Herbert and Lower Burdekin forecast districts.
    
    Major Creek:
    Renewed rises above the moderate flood level are occurring along Major Creek.
    Haughton River:
    Major flooding occurring along the Haughton River.
    The Haughton River at Giru is currently at 2.93 metres and rising, above the major flood level (2.50 m).
    The Haughton River at Giru is likely to reach around 3.00 metres late Saturday morning. Further rises are possible with forecast rainfall.
