Weather Situation A severe heatwave extends across most of the Northern Territory and is expected to persist throughout the week in the Top End and central districts, while the heatwave will ease over southern districts from Thursday as cooler southerly winds develop. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected to slowly return to the Top End as northwesterly winds bring moisture back. Isolated showers and thunderstorms will also spread southwards this week as a trough drifts southwards over the southern districts. This trough moves northwards again from Thursday as a high pressure system crosses southern Australia.
