Weather Situation A monsoon trough is developing over the Gulf of Carpentaria as a westerly surge extends through the Arafura Sea. A tropical low is forming within the monsoon trough, while a trough extends west across the Top End. The tropical low is developing and is likely to develop in tropical cyclone later on Saturday or Sunday morning. Initial movement of the tropical low will likely be slow before moving in a general south to southwest direction towards southwestern parts of the Gulf of Carpentaria later in the weekend. A ridge of high pressure over southern Australia is directing dry southeast winds across much of the NT south of the Top End.
