Tropical Cyclone Trevor
At 4am EST Tuesday, Tropical Cyclone Trevor (Severe category 3) was estimated to be 140km east of Lockhart River and 290km east of Weipa and moving WSW at 7km/h.
Tropical Cyclone Trevor is expected to continue moving WSW and cross the north Queensland coast just south of Lockhart River Tuesday evening.
Gales with gusts in excess of 90km/h are expected to develop between Orford Ness and Cape Flattery tonight. Destructive winds with gusts in excess of 125km/h are possible between Cape Grenville and Coen from Tuesday afternoon as the cyclone approaches the coast. Gusts up to 205 km/h may occur near the centre as the cyclone makes landfall on Tuesday evening.
Abnormally high tides are expected about the far north Queensland coast with the high tide on Tuesday.
Heavy rainfall, which may lead to flash flooding, is forecast to develop across far north Queensland over the next few days.
