Weather Situation A trough is located near the base of the Top End and extends into the southern Gulf of Carpentaria to Tropical Cyclone Owen. The system is expected to continue moving west tonight and tomorrow before slowing and recurving back east later this week. Showers and thunderstorms will increase over eastern Top End and the Carpentaria District as the system moves closer to the Territory. Monsoon onset is possible over northeast Top End during the week, but is dependent on movement and development of Tropical Cyclone Owen. A prolonged heatwave event across much of the Territory continues, with daytime temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius in some parts.
