Lingering summer temperatures for WA

Jacobus Cronje, 10 March 2018

With much of eastern parts of Australia seeing a slight cooling trend and easing of recent summer heat, above average temperatures are stubbornly lingering over most of Western Australia.

A heat trough over western parts of the country has led to hot days across WA, some up to 10 degrees above average in the northern interior.

The trough is also bringing persistent offshore circulation, leading to above average warm overnight conditions along the west coast.

Looking ahead, a low pressure system and associated cold front should cross the southwestern parts of the state late on Friday into early Saturday next week, bringing a brief respite in daytime heat with cloud and showers, but significantly for overnight temperatures.

However, daytime heat is unlikely to dissipate over the central and northern parts of the state, where above average temperatures are expected to linger for at least the remainder of March.
