Warmest weekend in eight months for Melbourne, Adelaide

Temperatures will be on the rise in southern Australia this weekend.

Northerly winds on the western flank of a slow-moving high pressure system will draw inland heat towards the south coast during the next few days.

Both Adelaide and Melbourne are forecast to have their warmest weekend since March, with maximum temperatures climbing four to eight degrees above average in both cities.

The spell of late-spring warmth will spill into the start of next week, before a cooler change arrives on Wednesday.

The mercury is expected to drop by around 10 degrees in the wake of the change for both cities, serving as a reminder that summer is still a few weeks away.
