November heat record broken in Melbourne
Melbourne has just experienced a record spell of November heat.
A pool of warm and humid air lingering over the city this week has caused an unusually long spell of daytime temperatures in the high twenties and low thirties.
Friday was the city's seventh consecutive day above 28 degrees, which is a new record for November. The previous record for this time of year was six days from 2009 and 1896.
Melbourne's average maximum temperature at this time of year is 22 degrees and data is available back to 1855.
A weak cool change should reach the city on Sunday and bring some relief from the heat early next week. The respite will be short-lived though, with temperatures forecast to reach the low thirties once again by Wednesday.
